Acid Bugs posted 12.19.2010
Falling into the evolution of forgetting
just what it is that I am supposed to be evolving
until the sun splits the horizon like a kamikaze
dropping out of the sky
Remembering there is a reason why
I don’t stay up all night tripping on LSD
but that reason eludes me as my body feels
the acid-bugs crawling along the nerve endings
tap dancing under my skin,
and if I look really close, I mean really close,
I can see the flesh undulating as the acid-bugs
make their way between my skin and muscles,
and if I take my Barlow knife and am really careful,
I mean really careful, I can quickly slash the flesh
just above the bug,
and if I don’t go too deep I can just get the bug,
so carefully,
and I do mean very carefully because I’m not crazy,
I mean I know a knife can hurt me
so I got to be surgeon scalpel careful,
when I feel the acid-bug coming up my arm slowly,
coming up from my wrist and moving north
towards my elbow,
creeping steadily up my arm,
when I can perceive the slight bump,
I place the Barlow right above its trajectory
gently slide the blade across the flesh
and just as the skin splits I drop the knife,
reach in with my thumb and forefinger
grab the acid-bug and quickly pop it into my mouth
because you don’t want to eat those things after they been in the sunlight.
They get hard.
